Tauranga is where we lived for four years from 2012 until 2016. It has some of the best sunny weather in the country and a beautiful long stretch of white-sand beach that runs all the way from "The Mount" down to Papamoa. The fortnightly "Little Big Markets" and Mexican food were probably the stand outs for us when we lived there. There's also a really cool Jazz festival annually, around Easter, and my favourite summer time restaurant: Mills Reef. Culturally, Tauranga is pretty dull. It has waterviews at every turn though, which more than makes up, with her roads always curving around one bay or another. The Mount is a little more vibrant, with a stretch of bars and restaurants down the main street. Good place for admiring North Island coastal scenery and to stop and beach for a couple of days. You can read more about Tauranga on a blog I did in July 2016 (see link above).
